Theresa Grentz Appears at March Meeting.
Last month, the Delaware County Press Club and Harrah’s Casino welcomed Theresa Shank Grentz, a member of the National Championship Mighty Macs Basketball teams of 1972, 1973, and 1974 from then Immaculata College, now Immaculata University. Also present was the university’s Mascot, MAC, a large grey Scottie Dog.
Grentz told of her early years in Delaware County and how she found her way to Immaculata. She spoke highly of her roots and what her years at Immaculata had done for her career. In fact, after 33 years as a top Division I basketball coach, she returned last summer to Immaculata where she now holds the position “Assistant to the Vice President of Student Affairs.”
Theresa, during her entertaining and informative remarks, spoke of being a “nun” in the recent movie about those championships years filmed on campus in May and June of last year. Eight of the nine living members of the first team donned religious habits for their cameo roles. Their appearance, filmed at St. Coleman’s Church in Ardmore, proved to be grueling yet enjoyable for the players.
According to Marie Moughan, executive director of Public Relations and Marketing at Immaculata, the movie, Our Lady of Victory, is finished and the writer/director, Tim Chambers, a native of Newtown Square, is looking for a distributor. She said that she thought it would be released sometime this fall.
At the end of Theresa’s remarks, she was honored by Delaware County Historical Society as one of Delaware County's Olympians. Theresa coached the women’s United States Basketball team in the Summer Olympics of 1992.
