Gordon Medenica is Executive Vice President of Philadelphia Media Holdings, LLC, the owner of The Philadelphia Inquirer and Daily News.  He advised Brian Tierney’s local investor group in their purchase of the newspapers, and joined the management team after the acquisition.  Medenica acts as liaison with the newsrooms, and also focuses on strategy, online operations and business development.

Medenica had been a long-time executive with The New York Times Company, serving on the Management Committee of the Company, as the head of strategic planning, and as a Group Publisher of several of its magazines.  Medenica participated in approximately $2 billion in acquisitions and $1 billion in divestitures during his time with the Company, including the acquisition of The Boston Globe in 1993, then the largest newspaper deal in the industry's history.

After the Times Company, Medenica was President and CEO of DornaUSA, a sports marketing company.  More recently, he served as an independent adviser to The Blackstone Group on newspaper acquisitions, beginning with the recapitalization of Freedom Communications in 2002.  He has also worked with Providence Equity Partners, Kohlberg Kravis Roberts and Fortress Capital in conjunction with Blackstone and other deals.

Medenica received his AB from Harvard College and his MBA from Harvard  Business School.
